I decided to go out last night with my friend Julie as she thought it might cheer me up, so we just went for a few drinks and then headed to an Indian restaurant for a meal. The meal was going well till...well all I can say is it was like the scene out of the 1st Bridget Jones's Diary when Daniel and Mark are fighting and they go into the restaurant and it someones birthday so they stop and sing happy birthday then they start fighting again lol, well it happened more or less like that, big party, someones birthday, they all sing happy birthday then all hell breaks loose lol, I was just waiting for It's Raining Men to start playing then that would have been funny, it did make me smile although I do hate voilence I think there's no need for it.

I found out this morning my cousin died shortly before I got the phone call. He was taken into The Northern General Hospital in Sheffield a couple of weeks ago for an operation because he had cancer and although they were hoping the op was a success where the cancer was concerned, he started bleeding internally, he had a blood transfussion but they had to operate to see if they could stop the bleed, unfortunately he died in theatre this morning, he was only 45 and I'm gutted as we are a close family. We had lots of good times us cousins as youngsters and me being the youngest, I used to get picked on lol as I think they resented me being there a little but we used to look back and laugh at these things as we got older, he also used to tell me that he used to hang around with Joe Elliott when he was younger which I would never believe until last week he said yeah we used to hang out at the Wapentake all the time back then, I'll miss his little stories and the funny way he would tell the nurses when they asked if he had any pains and he would reply yeah, my cousin, she's sat there, pointing at me. He will now be with his Mum & Dad that's comforting to know and also that he's not suffering any more. RIP Alan Firth.

Urrrghhhh can't stand em they give me the creeps but would never hurt them, hubby released it back into the wild after taking this shot....thank goodness.

Well it was my first day of my new job today. I started at 10 and finished at 3 lol, won't be like that everyday as I am on induction for the first 2 weeks. Today all I did was watch company videos, i.e. manual handling, health and safety in the workplace, COHSS (control of hazardous something or other), eat bacon butties and drink tea lol, the people are very friendly so I think I will be ok, they have told me the run up to Xmas I won't get much training as it will be busy for them as it is a food distribution company for pubs, restaurants, schools, hospitals, universities, etc and as we all know the Xmas period is a busy time for eating out, but after Xmas my training will begin properly, so as of yet I can't tell whether I will like it or not but I'll give it my best shot.

At the moment I can't seem to access comments on a lot of peoples Blogs, is there a setting on my computer which disallows this as it's so frustrating, Kim I can't access yours anymore now. So please if I dont comment it's not that I don't want to I just can't. We have Norton Internet Security which has this pop up blocker could it be anything to do with that, but if so how come it will let me access some and not others.

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

What is Bonfire Night about?

After Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603, English Catholics, who had had a rough time under her reign, had hoped that her successor, James I, would be more tolerant of their religion. Alas, he was not, and this angered a number of young men who decided that violent action was the answer.

One man in particular, Robert Catesby, suggested to some close friends that the thing to do was to blow up the Houses of Parliament. In doing so, they would kill the King, maybe even the Prince of Wales, and the members of parliament who were making life difficult for Catholics.
To carry out their plan, the conspirators got hold of 36 barrels of gunpowder - and stored them in a cellar which they had rented just under the House of Lords.

As the group worked on the plot, it became clear that some innocent people would be hurt or killed in the attack. Some of the plotters started having second thoughts. One of the group members sent an anonymous letter warning his friend, Lord Monteagle, to stay away from the Parliament on November 5th.

The warning letter reached the King, and the King's forces made plans to stop the conspirators.

Guy Fawkes was alone in the cellar under the Houses of Parliament with the 36 barrels of gunpowder when the authorities stormed it in the early hours of November 5th, 1605. He was caught, tortured and executed, after revealing the names of some of the other plotters. They were also caught and executed.

The 5th of November was declared a public holiday. The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. Some people have been known to wonder whether they are celebrating Fawkes' execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the government!

Preparations for Bonfire Night celebrations include making a dummy of Guy Fawkes, which is called "the Guy". Some children keep up an old tradition of walking in the streets, carrying "the Guy" they have just made, and beg passersby for "a penny for the Guy." The kids use the money to buy fireworks for the evening festivities. It is not uncommon nowadays for the Guy to bear a striking resemblance to a famous politician or member of the royal family!

On the night itself, the Guy is placed on top of the bonfire, which is then set alight; and fireworks fill the sky. People eat traditional foods including baked potatoes and toffee apples.

So there ya go
